Fern Mallis, Margherita Missoni, John Legend, "random", and Amanda Hearst
J. Alexander and "random" aka Mal Sirrah
Well it’s a rainy day in New York City and our hearts are heavy with September 11th remembrance… Therefore I find myself in a bit of a “mood”… Whenever this happens I simply remember how lucky I am to have my work, a full and rich life, and all of my wonderful friends that keep me motivated and inspired... On that note, I will proceed…
Last night I was invited to a wonderful event at Cipriani on 23rd Street by the lovely Margherita Missoni and the equally as stunning, Amanda Hearst (my dear friend Lydia Hearst’s first cousin). At first I was a bit hesitant about going only because I was a bit exhausted from the long weekend of shows and after-parties. Then they informed me that John Legend was performing - - - the decision was made - - - I was so there…
I immediately called my best friend, J. Alexander (or "Miss J" as people scream out to him as we are walking the street these days – still a bit weird), but off we went to the soiree… Anyway, as soon as we walked through the door there was Fern Mallis of IMG (also one of the hostesses for the event sponsored by One Scottsdale). I must admit that for many years as I was coming up through the ranks, Fern Mallis used to frighten the living bejesus out of me… I am not exactly sure why… but at the time I am sure I believed that this woman could make or break my career… Now that I have come in to my own, I know that this is completely untrue - my destiny is firmly in my own hands which are cupped by the universe. That being said, Fern could not have been more genuine and/or kind in her greeting.
What a wonderful evening – the venue and atmosphere was top notch and John Legend was absolutely amazing… Then Jay convinced me to go to the Marc Jacobs…
As I was still in scouting mode on behalf of Designers For Darfur and had been formally invited by their P.R. folks, I thought that this wouldn’t be such a bad idea… That was until we turned up in front of the venue and witnessed the melee and the screaming security informing everyone that the show wouldn’t start for another two hours. I simply bid Jay adieu and kept it moving… As I walked briskly towards my awaiting chauffeured driven D-Train back to Harlem, I was left with these thoughts / questions – “Is this what one can expect if they finally make it in the world of fashion. Is this what we have come to expect from our prevailing American luxury brand???” If so, I’ll have none of it…

OMG!! I FEEL YOU 100%!!!
In regards to the Marc Jacobs show...As I stood in line, for almost and hour, then sat on the inside for another hour (fighting with the RUDE PR-GIRLS(INTERNS!)and watched the show FOR 15 MINUTES!!! I came to the conclusion, that I NEVER in my career had to attend another MJ show again!
