Designer Malcolm Harris presents his Mal Sirrah Spring/Summer 2008 Collection

“One Dress – All Women – One World”

Mal Sirrah’s conceptual collection is based on the “one style fits all theory”. This concept was originally sparked after designer and muse, Nina Clemente (daughter of famed artist Francesco Clemente) began discussing the over saturation of "product" within the fashion industry. They both felt as if there were so many choices to pick from these days that most women simply felt overwhelmed and frustrated. Therefore, the designer set out to design the perfect dress for his muse and eventually dubbed the result - “The Nina”

This concept was further fueled after designer Malcolm Harris had a chance meeting with fashion icon and designer Diane Von Furstenberg. Whilst at a gallery opening in New York City for Nina’s father Francesco, DVF spotted one of the designer’s dear friends (Nicola Vassel) wearing the original mock-up/test run of his concept dress which prompted her to express to the designer that she believed he had found his own personal version of her legendary “wrap dress”. She believed the dress possessed all the key elements that flattered all body types across the board. The designer immediately knew that this was no coincidence, but truly “the hand of fate.”

Therefore what you are about to witness is “one singular and fine tuned point of view.” You will view this single dress being manipulated and distorted by the use of unique draping and tailoring expertise. You will see its silhouette inflated and/or deflated depending on the use of traditional as well as cutting edge fabrications. You will notice it skim the hips in silk jersey, mold the torso in laminated cotton and silk blends, as well as hover above the wearer’s frame in silk tulle. You will admire the dress as it goes from day to evening depending on the multiple choices in length, cut or shimmer. And through slight modifications of construction and pattern, you will observe the wearer go from demure flower child to full on Hollywood screen siren. But most importantly what you will behold “One Dress” which has been proven to be flattering on “All Women” of various sizes, heights, and body types no matter where in our “One World” she chooses to adorn “The Nina”.

In the same unified spirit of our “One” concept, a percentage of the net profits from the sell of this dress will go to benefit the “One Campaign” which is dedicated to make poverty history…

Disclaimer: In order to allow myself a bit of creative fun and not to make the above sound so serious, I have decided to fully appreciate and take advanage of these last magical days before I have to start answering to suits, watchdogs and investors… Therefore, I present to you “Mal Sirrah’s Spring Summer 2008 Collection” narrated by “The Oracle – Andre J”…

Mal,

By any chance was the Andre J. video inspired by the Joseph Gordon-Levitt video on Cathy Horyn's blog. If not, check it out. If so, BRILLIANT!

I love what you bring to the industry. It's been missing for a long time.
